BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Former U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will visit North Dakota this week to campaign for Democratic U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.
Heitkamp's campaign says he will stump for the senator Tuesday in Bismarck, New Town and Minot.
On Wednesday, Hagel will make campaign stops with Heitkamp in Grand Forks, Portland, Fargo and the senator's hometown of Mantador.
Hagel served as defense secretary in the Obama administration. He also is a former Republican senator from Nebraska and Vietnam combat veteran.
Heitkamp is facing Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer in a race seen as critical for control of the closely divided Senate.
